Question Hairagami Kimono bun? Can *anyone* do this?

On my endless quest for things that will help me put my hair into something that resembles an elegant hairstyle - I bought one of these:

http://www.hairagami.com/hairkimono.html

But I just can't seem to get it to work! Has anyone managed to use this successfully?

I couldn't even figure out the theory behind making it work. The pictures are pretty, though.

I have one of those! I might be able to make it work in a half-up, but I found out long ago that I just have too much hair for the thing to close. I haven't tried anything with it in a long time.

The picture is what drew me in - but it was just impossible.

My hair is hip length - I think I was perhaps overly optimistic of success.

Re: Hairagami Kimono bun? Can *anyone* do this?

I got the most basic hairstyle (I think it's called Tabby or something) to work. But it didn't look particularly special. I ought to have another go with it sometime. I wanted to try that obi one (insert star wars joke) but couldn't figure out where the ends went?

I have almost all of the hairagami products. I wear the basic hairagami all the time, generally in a european bun or a sushi but sometimes something more complicated and don't wear a bun without a hairagami anymore (used to use whirl-a-style but hairagami is much better and I don't like pins or sticks). The other one I use quite a bit is the hair yoga which I hesitated getting as I didn't think it would suit me but I'm quite happy with it.

Anyway, my point is, it's a bit pot luck with hairagami. Some things work, others don't. I think my hair is too curly to look that good with the kimono.

Ooh, the picture looks gorgeous! Please someone say it works with waistlength hair, so I can order one too!
Hope it works out, Boudicca.

I'll give it another bash, now that I'm cone free. Maybe the hair was too slippy?

I was able to make the regular Hairagami work (the black velvet that rolls up), but that thing looks like a nightmare to operate.

I won't be buying one of those.

Let us know if you ever figure it out.

I don't know, it bugs me that this is the only one without directions!

But the hair yoga looks pretty awesome http://www.hairagami.com/ht_hairyoga.html

Re: Hairagami Kimono bun? Can *anyone* do this?

Well here's the instructions that came with it. Hopefully they'll be readable. I don't have a scanner so this is just a photo but hopefully it might help you decide. As I said, the instructions for a lot of them are a bit confusing.

I have a really nice do that I can do with the yoga and a big hairclip but I left it at my flat in Sheffield I'll try and post a pic sometime though.

I couldn't even make the black velvet thingy work. Or the two interlocking spiral things. Maybe it's just me, but it was beyond me.

Re: Hairagami Kimono bun? Can *anyone* do this?

Actually, it doesn't look that bad. (I may be putting my foot in my mouth here...)

From the picture and the contraption itself, I'd say:

1. put your hair in a low ponytail
2. loop the hair and use the center clip to hold it
3. separate the loose hair into 2
4. take one side and loop it (away from the head) and clip 2nd clip
5. repeat on the other side
6. repeat until no more clips

Does that make sense? I could probably show you easier than explain it. Of course, I may be completely off here!

Pani - I *must* learn how to do that! It's beautiful!

Re: Hairagami Kimono bun? Can *anyone* do this?

Well, I managed to do it - but it hurts and doesn't look good. It looks all bunched up because I have so much hair. At one point, I was actually bending the plastic! Also, your hair is really tightly wound round these sort of 'teeth' grips - I don't think it can be too good for you.

I will give the ponytail type ones a go, though.
