Hi everyone!
I'm going to a kind of party this weekend, with a 50's theme. I have a dress, but I reckon I should do something with my hair, too... Does anyone have any suggestions of typical 50's updos? It's preferable if they're pretty quick made since I won't have much time getting ready. My hair is just above BCL.

Here's an updo I did for prom: I did a swoop with volume for my bangs, a french twist, and since I didn't know what to do with my length and couldn't tuck it into the twist, did volume on top by curling my hair and pinning it up for a curly top look. I'll see if I can find my thread since there were great suggestions.

Also worth mentioning is that makeup can really help sell the look. I think there are some tutorials referenced in my old thread.

Victory rolls isn't too hard to do; you don't need to tease the hair even if a lot of tutorials show that, but you probably need some hairspray. The rest of the hair can be left hanging loose; some cateye eyeliner and red lips and you're good to go! A hair flower is the perfect addition too if you have one.
Ooh, I love vintage hair! The poodle hair that Lucille Ball used to wear is a lot of fun! You can also do a bouffant updo, it was probably in the 50s that they started really doing tall hair, the beehive started then too. Some of these really are hard to do without teasing, and they're hard to hold if your hair is long. (I have done victory rolls with long hair and no teasing, but it takes a lot of work and pinning)
There's some really good video tutorials on hairstyles to try, some of my faves are by CherryDollFace, AVintageVanity (adore her!), and LisaFreemontSt
Here's a vid of a poodle you can do with your hair length, you do not need to use a curling iron, but you do need to curl it, so try using pincurls with setting lotion or a wet set. (put hair into curls with your fingers either dampened with water or setting lotion and pin it till it dries, or use a roller).
You could also do something like this, but put it into a chignon at the back (that's a very popular updo from then too, just simple, think Grace Kelly) to make it totally up. Know that this will take more practice.
I also really recommend you try all these different ways to do a victory roll (Vintagious is awesome too!) because they really are hard with some hair types if you don't backcomb them, and she offers some ways to do it that will work without, and will work when you're still learning too.
Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions! I ended up with å low chignon (torrinpaige's wrapped chignon - a Celtic knot bun, and instead of just wrapping the hair "in front of" the ears, I first twirled it to create a bit ifrån volume in the front).
This sounds like it looked great !
