Default Castor oil for scalp cleansing?

Hi. I apologize if this has been addressed already in the monster castor oil thread or elsewhere. I know a lot of you use castor oil as a treatment to encourage hair growth, but is anyone using it as a cleanser?

I use the oil cleansing method for my sensitive blemish-prone skin, and I was considering using it somehow to cleanse my scalp when it gets dry and kinda flaky instead of shampoo. Then follow it with a conditioner wash.
    Has anyone tried this?

Dear heavens. The stickiness... I don't know how you would get it out without shampoo/conditioner/herbs/BS wash or whatever. I don't think it would work as a standalone cleanser.

    Ok. Gave it a go.
I forgot to mention in my original post that I'm not actually using straight castor oil. I forget that it's a mix. I make up a big batch of castor oil blended with olive & sesame oil for my skin in a glass jar, and it's been so long since I made it I forget it's a blend.

So I put it on my hair and used my fingers to kind of skritch it around on my head, then applied olive oil to the length and wrapped it up in plastic wrap. Then I sat in a warm bath for a while and massaged my scalp. Then I washed it out with conditioner. It took two applications. My hair is still wet, but it feels really clean. I should be able to skip my shampoo this week!

Oh gosh, I didn't see that you mentioned following it with a CO wash!

Have you tried the CO method without castor oil?

When I've used it, I used it straight, not mixed with other oils and I applied vo5 cond before I got my hair wet with water. I rinsed that out then applied the vo5 again to wet hair. Came out very clean, no oily residue, and my scalp felt extra clean. I believe I read somewhere that castor has antifungal properties.
