Question At what length do split ends become inescapable?

    Similar to this post: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ght=split+ends
    However,
I'm not asking at what length you start getting them,
I'm asking at what length you cant keep them away no matter what you do or how healthy your hair is!

Crud I already submitted the post and so I can't edit the poll so if you don't know then just don't vote.

Not exactly! I start getting split ends around shoulder length but if I trim them away and take good care of my hair they stay away for a while. However there seems to be a point for many people when their hair is so long and old that splitting isn't even a trim-worthy offense anymore.

I'm almost at ankle and don't have a split end problem. Don't know why. I keep my hair up all the time, I suppose that helps!

Don't think there is one, depends on haircare (many variables), hair age (not same as length), how many cuticle layers you hair had in the first place, how often and how carefully you microtrim.
Dyed-in-the-wool redhead, growing out a major shed & mechanical damage to hairline. Eight years 'modified' Curly Girl, just past BSL stretched but keep trimming.

I don't know how useful this information will be though, without also asking something about hair type at least. It seems to me that all other things being equal, fine haired people get split ends sooner and have the most trouble with them, so hearing from a lot of people with coarse hair who don't particularly have a problem won't tell you anything useful if you are a fine hair.
Have you tried catnip? Apparently that does a lot to help for many.

I've always had split ends to a greater or lesser extent. When my hair was shoulder length it would get caught in the hinges of my glasses, I'd accidentally tear through it with a brush, etc. Now that it's TBL and I wear it up all the time I still get splits from where the hair is just old and weak. No matter how gentle I am there's nothing that can stop years worth of wear and tear from eventually catching up. Luckily I can keep it all under control with s&d sessions.

My hair is at hip and I have a few residual splits from pre LHC, but for the most part, my ends are as fresh as they were when they came out of my head. I've always tried to be good to my hair within the standard salon color/blowdry method of hair care. With no heat, stretching washes, oiling and henna, I don't see why my hair would start splitting. I aways protect it by wearing it up, sleep caps at night, hoods and scarves during the day. There is so little opportunity for my hair to suffer the damage that would lead to splits. You know, "treat it like antique lace".

I never really noticed a problem with them at all.. I get a few periodically, but not much for as rough as I am sometimes with my hair.. but it's also getting increasingly coarse.

I have been considering cutting up to waist lately :O It is currently just above TB, b/c I keep trimming it...

I had my hair at tailbone once, and barely had problems with split ends. Now my hair's at waist and still barely have any problems with them. So I didn't vote, since I don't know.
