Sorry all. With the time difference...I was snoozing . I ended up doing the Baking Soda and Soapnuts, but skipped the catnip for now because I ran out of time for it to brew. I can definetly tell a difference. The build up is gone and my hair is clean and shiny. The air has been so dry here lately, I am just covered with static electricity every day! It's so annoying, having a great hair style that is ruined by static electricity ..... aaahhh!

It's a bit late now, but it occurred to me that the reason for your build-up might be the omission of Shikakai. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's specifically for the scalp. That would explain why so many recipes include both Aritha and Shikakai: the former for the hair, and the latter for the scalp. In fact, the Hesh Shikakai powder packet bears the legend, "Dirt-buster for your scalp"

The build-up I was experiencing was on both my hair and scalp. I'm pretty sure it was from the mucilage in the Methi. I have been using that quite a bit in all of my recipes because I love how it thickens everything up. I'll probably still use it but only once a month for a deep conditioning, maybe with my Henna's.

Hmm no shikakai can be used alone and is good for scalp and the length. In India it used more the aritha. I use it alone without any other herb mixed with it all the time for all my hair and it works just fine with removing all my oil and I oil alot. Just thought I would put that out there so no one thinks you cant use shikakai for all the hairs

This is true. Shikakai can be used all by itself. However pre-oiling is a must. Isn't Shikakai just wonderful ?

Aisha25: How much shikakai do you use, and how long do you leave it in? Do you use it with no other herbs at all?
