I phoned Canada Dry today and emailed Schweppes and discovered that they are the same company under Snapple!

I asked what the pH is of club soda, and told one of 2 reps about club soda and chlorine. She had heard about it but not why or how it works and she is all excited now, lol.

The have strange information on the Canadian Schweppes site, 2 ingredients only for Scheppes Canadian Club Soda, cabonated water, which is acidic and sodium bicarbonate, (baking soda), which is not, while American Schweppes Club Soda is similar but not the same as Canada Dry Club Soda, which has more ingredients.

Their company information on all of their carbonated drinks has a pH range of 3.2 to 4 but that makes no sense to me or her, since none of those contain sodium bicarbonate or the no sugar and no other acids of club soda. I am waiting to hear back.

Internationally, Schweppes Club Soda is not imported from the States. It is licensed and made by another company, so read the lablel but the pH should be the same or why do they bother paying for the right to use the name, by my logic.

There are quite a few websites recommending club soda as a stain remover.

I like this one best. The author is/was adorable, IMO, and his project very well done.

".... results of the experiment were that Resolve worked the best, Club Soda worked the second best, and Spot Shot was the worst."

".... Resolve is best, but not by very much." (I corrected a typo.)
    http://www.selah.k12.wa.us/soar/scip...dyAgraphs.html

I would not use Resolve stain remover on hair or skin.

No news yet on the club soda pH. I have errands to run but I asked for an email version of the results as well as a phone call. I will give them to to end of the week and then I will call back, re the status of my request.

I was told that it should take a couple days, one or two.

    Updated, to include avocado oil.

Coconut, argan oil, avocado oil and heat

There are various misconceptions on the inernet regarding the processing of these 2 oils. It is not recommended to cook with argan oil, but the heat used during processing, if done properly, like that overseen through a co-operative, does not compromise the oil's properties.

    Coconut oil

"The Myth of Enzymes and Coconut Oil

"There are no enzymes in coconut oil, nor any other edible oil for that matter." - Mary Enig, Ph.D, a nutritionist/biochemist and the author of Know Your Fats.

"If you don't heat the oil high enough to destroy the enzymes and then filter them off, plus filter the oil, that oil becomes unstable and tastes terrible." Ray Peat, Ph.D, author of several articles on fats and oils, and coconut oil in particular.

.... good thing about coconut oil is .... it isn't damaged by heat. .... why it's so good for cooking. .... saturation that makes it stable. If coconut oil contains enzymes it would become very perishable - just like all raw foods containing enzymes." Lita Lee, Ph.D. - Lita is a chemist, enzyme nutritionist, nutritional counselor .... has written on coconut oil.

"Coconut oil does not contain enzymes. Many in .... raw food movement are misinformed about this." Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren, M.D., medical doctor, doctor of chiropractic, licensed nutritionist, certified clinical nutritionist .... lecturer on the health benefits of coconut oil ....

.... a myth that there are coconut oils on the market that are "live" with enzymes and "see no heat." Coconuts are native to the tropics, where temperatures are very hot. Any coconut oil distributed anywhere in North America has "seen heat."

    Argan oil

    From Aziz, Argan3

    "ARGANE OIL DEODORIZED
This type of Oil was made for the first time in 2005 and I started to import it to Canada only in 2008 . The Argane oil is deodorized by a physical natural process. The deodorization has been by steam over than 100 ° C and not a chemical process.

The oil conserves its fundamental properties .... : richness in vitamins E and unsaponifiables, known for its nourishing properties, regenerating and restructuring. Its strong antioxidants offset malnutrition in the depth of the skin responsible for cellular aging. Tests have been done in Morocco and many Laboratories of Cosmetics use such oil because its slightly unscented . The odor was a problem in the past for beauty care oil, With this new oil , the problem of odor has been 95% reduced and solved. Properties: .... Known to lower cholesterol and protects the cardiovascular system ...."

"Thermal stability .... of argan oil, 2008
The primary aim of this study was to determine the oxidative stability of argan oils .... Both food and cosmetic argan oils were investigated. .... cosmetic and food grades have a similar profile and content of phenolic antioxidants, vitamers, and squalene, it appears that the ratio of fatty acid groups .... much higher in argan oils than in other vegetable oils .... responsible for their higher thermal stability."

    Avocado oil

    Thermal stability

“This oil is best for high heat applications like sautéing, frying and all-purpose cooking. …. High Heat Up To 450°F”

I cannot copy and paste text from this link. The reference to strong oxidizing agents (hydrogen peroxide is considered to be a medium strong one, has to do with combustion), would make avocado oil not compatible with honey lightening, because it may affect the recipe peroxide level negatively, but honey lightening peroxide has not been stabilized and is much weaker. From scalawaggirl's results, avocado oil and 40 volume peroxide developer, were not a problem. A lot of both would be needed for that, and the peroxide not diluted, IMO. Very high heat, enough to be a problem, is not going to be found in a modern blowdryer, with a safety cut-off switch.

".... chlorophyll content in crude avocado oil is reduced rapidly on exposure to daylight and fluorescent light."

I called back re the pH of Canada Dry and Schweppes club soda and the rep has not heard back from Corporate yet.

I do not consider that a bad sign. They are hopefully taking the time to get me the answer. The customer service people there are great, IMO. I have spoken with 3 reps so far, (when you call in you get whoever answers the phone) and they have all been excellent (my reference # is under the first rep).
