Hi all I am new to this forum but a long time reader .
I love natural products for hair and decided to try indian haircare so I followed a recipe that was:1 tsp of shikakai + 2 tsp of amla + 1 cup hot water let it sit for a few minutes
But I may have missed something this was not really a paste, the mix was ruiny, and it took forever to rinse so here are my questions:
-When you do your mixes, do you obtain thick pastes like henna or so?
-Do you apply it on dry or wet hair ( I apllied it on wet hair after my Pre-washing oiling I read in shell article so directly in the shower)
-How long do you keep it in your hair? (I ketp it only a few minutes)
I appreciated the results since my hair was clean and moiturized but I am not sure about the consistency of the paste, I think it has to be thicker.
I must say I really appreciate this forum for the really good advices I can read here, and for the reaaly lovely hair I can see but I am sorry for my bad english, I am doing my best and I hope what I just wrote is clear enough for you to understand...
Hi Frenchgirl Welcome. I usually make it into a thick paste like yogurt and apply it on my dry scalp. I usually just add a little bit of water at a time until consistency is right.HTH
I have used it a few different ways. If it is too runny, I just shake it up really good and make it in to a thick foam. I have yet to figure out what my perfect mixture is, but each time I get a little closer with experimentation.
One thing I have learned and noticed for myself is that when you pre-oil waiting at least 2 hours until you wash to give the oils a chance to soak in and do their job.

I did something today that I don't recommend because my hair smells like rotten milk now so I'll have to wash it again. I had oiled last night, and today I mixed henna, cassia, amla, and shikakai with greek yogurt and covered with plastic wrap. I left it for too long I guess, probably 2 hours. My hair is very shiney but oily still. I was hoping that adding the shikakai would help it be cleansing, but no. I do bet that once the smell is gone and my hair is clean, it will be in great condition though.
