    If you've got the time (and probably someone to help you), small braids pulled into high pigtails or double buns could work.

    Theres a youtuber called binosusume who has some great tutorials on faux-mohawks (a straight and a curly version)

    Well, now that I've been inspired to do updos, I think I'm going to try out this one: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...&articleid=109. My hair might be too tapered though. But if I can make it work, I think I'll temporarily dye the dangly ends red.
