It took me three years or so of bleaching and shaving before I got to the point I could just ignore it and grow.

It might not be your time yet bat but you'll eventually get there.

I never know how to call length when layers are involved. The back is just starting to brush my shoulders but the shortest layer isn't even to my ear yet.

I'm kinda curious, Bat, what are you thinking when you pick up the clippers? Is it like a need to cut hair? It also took me 4-5 years to stop cutting my hair and let it grow. Every time, I would also shave my head. I did it like 4 times? before I said no more.

Various reasons but it's usually because I've killed it and the only option is to shave it off ( which was the latest reason)

Sometimes out of boredom or because I don't think at all and just do

Its also hard to grow since I despise my natural color and don't like how my texture has changed cause of hormone therapy

I think I've hit the 'I've had enough stage for now but we will see what happens in 2 months when my bleaching urge shows itself

My itty bitty pixie is on its way! The front reaches about two-thirds down my nose, the sides cover my ears, and the back is starting to mullet. I'm trying to let it grow as long as I can stand before I finally trim a bit off the back to let everything catch up. I can put it in a tiny ponytail and pretend I'm Link from The Legend of Zelda. :eyeroll:

Hey...

I'm an old member who was gone for a long time, and now I'm back and growing out a buzz cut again >_<

I got to around collarbone length last time, then buzzed it all off after my mother died last year as a symbol of mourning. I don't regret it at all, but now I want to try to grow it out again, and visiting this forum has always helped motivate me.

Right now my shortest layer grazes my eybrows, and I recently cut off my mullet to about jaw length, so it almost looks like a bob if you you squint. I was doing really well keeping my hair healthy until January, when a guy I was dating convinced me to go blonde again and I, unfortunately, listened. We broke up a few days later, and I got a bunch of breakage. Lesson learned.

Now I'm back to a kind of natural looking brown (demi-permanent), but I really want to leave it alone and let my silver hair be great, or at least only use semi-permanent dye from now on. Following along with the rest of you will hopefully keep me motivated, and also maybe have somewhere to complain to about all these layers, lol.

Kind of wish I hadn't cut off the mullet, but seeing how quickly those bottom layers return, I'll probably have another one in no time.

I never do that, even when I lost my grandmother a few years ago. Instead, I went on Etsy and looked for a memorial with a picture that I could give to all of the grandkids (I'm the oldest). My mom recently said she wants to let her gray grow in to see if it suits her (she's been dyeing it blonde for years), but I would look like I'm sick again, so nope (I'm nearly 52 and still no grays. My mom says it's because I didn't have any kids), I'll stick with the light to medium golden brown (darkened from strawberry blonde/red; natural, not dyed). I'll be using Natural Instincts in Medium Golden Brown (which is the closest to my current color). I will never go blonde again (biggest mistake of my life, but I was a teenager at the time). I should have listened when a classmate said: "Not on her." when somebody else suggested I go blonde (too light or too dark will totally wash me out, since I have a warm complexion).

You and me both! I'm planning on leaving mine alone for the next three months just because I'm lazy. I doubt I ever grow longer than a pixie since every time it gets shaggy I buzz it off. Who knows though, we may grow yet Bat!
