Hi everyone! I've been lurking on this forum for a while now and finally decided to become a member and contribute! This site is just a wealth of information and it's been really fun looking through it. I appreciate everyone taking the time to share their stories and advice.

My hair is about waist length now, and about 2B-2C so just a little shrinkage. This is the longest my hair has ever been! Growing up I always kept it quite short. I always had pixie cuts and sometimes buzzed the back and sides. This was mostly for comfort's sake; I am autistic and have sensory issues regarding hair touching my face. Also, when I was a teenager I was in my "rejecting femininity" phase and preferred for my hair to look boyish, lol. Starting around 2019 is when I became much more lazy with my hair. I haven't seen a hairdresser probably since then. I just never got around to cutting it and one day in 2021 or so I noticed it was really quite long?? When did that happen??? I have had my partner trim it for me once or twice since then but otherwise I still have not cut it in several years.

I've really grown to like having long hair now. I like the way it frames my face and I really blend in at all the metal concerts, haha. This year I have started focusing on caring for it better - using better products and pampering it. This site has been so useful on that journey! In the past I don't think I understood what hair type I had and how to care for it, or knew how to care for my scalp properly. I'm getting much better at keeping my scalp and hair hydrated, and my hair care routine is now one of my favorite self-care activities! I am working towards healthier hair, and am curious to see how long my hair can get! :)

Welcome to the forums! I had a similar teenage phase and chopped all of my hair off haha, it looks like may have started our hair growth journies around the same time. See you around

Welcome, we seem to have the same hair type (though mine's just medium thick, not fine)

The only reason mine was shorter in grade school was because my mom didn't like dealing with it. I started growing it longer in high school, but because I used to dye it a lot (black, blonde, brown) it didn't grow much past shoulder length (probably because it was so damaged from the chemicals from the hair dye). I didn't dye it again until 2005, and won't again until it goes gray/white, since it would totally wash me out.

The only thing feminine about me is my long hair (about mid-back range), since I'm more of a tomboy than a girly-girl (but a tomboy with long hair, since I just turned 51 at the end of July and am not planning on getting an "old lady" hairstyle anytime soon. Screw the "age appropriate" hairstyles) and despise wearing skirts, dresses, make-up or high heels. I also don't like the color pink or romantic comedies (I prefer action/adventure, sci-fi, horror, etc). I also love video games (mostly action/adventure games like Uncharted). I just got a PS5 for my birthday, and because Jedi: Survivor was so huge, I only have about 181.5 GB of space left (I've bought a 1TB internal SSD, but haven't got up the nerve to install it yet, since I don't really need it until I buy another game. I have about 13 games on it, 7 for PS5, and 6 for the PS4 with two PS4 games hidden, since I either didn't care for it or I'm not into that particular fandom anymore).

very true!

i got to see mastodon, gojira, and lorna shore this year for their tour. that was great, but i'm excited to see dragonforce at a much smaller venue! it allows for much more intimate headbanging, lol. thank you for the warm welcome!
