Metal slides into my hair the smoothest but I love the look of natural wood and leather. Fabric too, especially jean fabric or ribbons for taping, fabric flowers. I've been admiring wooden hairsticks with flowers in resin on the Etsy.
I really want to try glass hairsticks but I don't know how easy they are to break.
Also, my husband wants to start hunting for food so I want to try making things out of bone as part of a nose to tail type of deal. So I'll probably try to make hair toys out of bone at some point.

I've been wearing my Dymondwood ketylos a lot recently, but I like natural wood and acrylic too.

Metal Ficcares are number one for sure

    Acetate claw clips

and I also have a set if antler split sticks that I kept from when I had long hair the last time (I sold my other GT stick and forks and now wish maybe I kept a couple more..)

I voted natural wood and acrylic. I usually wear rather thin (Mei Fa) wood, but acrylic is good when hair is wet or I'll be in a very wet situation. I have one metal hairstick which I hardly ever use, it just is too skinny and turns and twists in my bun. I have a plastic stick that's pretty thick and it is really too thick for my thin little bun.

One of these days I'll get a claw clip and that will be plastic I guess.

Hair wasn't a material option but Merino wool is my favorite. Buffs. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer (well as cool as can be here in hell anyway).
