My hair is currently about arm-pit length (didn't know how else to describe it) and I have layers that are shoulderlength, some a little shorter as well.
I'm currently trying to grow my hair to waistlength, but I don't know what to do about my layers. I would prefer to have all of my hair the same length, but I don't want to cut it up to the layers yet. Any advice on how to grow out layers?
There's not much for it but patience and being very, very clear with the hairdressers about what you want. Nothing sucks more than growing that stubborn top layer out a few precious inches, going in for a trim, and having the hairdresser send you right back to square one because she thought you wanted her to "touch up" your layers, not just dust the hemline. D: If all your layers are between APL and chin or so I wouldn't worry about it much, but the ends of the layers might get a little splitty as you grow them out. Find a hairdresser that you can trust to trim the littlest bit off the bottom of each layer, without putting in new layers or lopping off massive amounts of hair.
They'll probably be gone by the time you get to waist, just from normal trimming
(My layers were awful... the shortest one was about jaw level, and I couldn't do anything with it for years. They'd get out of any updo and make these stupid-looking wings behind my ears... Gah! Lesson leaned: Renbirde's hair is too fine for short layers.)
You can avoid the scissor happy hairdresser problem by saying that if he cuts more than you asked, you won't pay That is what I used to do before I starting trimming my own hair.
Thank you for your kind replies :-)
I want to do my own trims eventually as well, but I have trouble doing it with my layers. I hope to learn with time, but for know I would rather leave my hair in the hands of a pro
so thrilled to have found LHC, usually people think you're incredibly vain when you talk so much about your hair
Sounds like we've got similar-lengthed hair. I have layers too and I'm working on growing them out as well. I'm new here too, I'm enjoying all the info here!
