New hairtoy reeks of cigarette smoke :(

I am so disappointed. Today I received a leather hair barrette from a seller on Etsy, and on opening the box I found that everything absolutely reeks of cigarette smoke. Airing it out doesn't seem to be getting rid of the smell. Can you think of a way to de-stink the hairtoy? DBF mentioned that we could try rubbing some kind of oil on it.

This is annoying. I have a very small budget for hairtoys, and I'm very disappointed.

I've contacted them and am waiting for a reply. Nobody else in their feedback mentions the cigarette smoke, but it's really strong on the leather and the stick that goes through the leather. Yuck!

And if the seller is difficult about it, you can start an Etsy dispute. You should not accept this!

Ditto this! Contact the seller, but make a note on your Etsy/Paypal dispute window. You want to give them enough time to make it right, but still leave yourself covered.

I weave baskets and I once got an order of reed that reeked. I had ordered from them many times both before and after and never had a problem except for this one order. It was such a huge box to worry about returning that I just let it set outside overnight for a couple of nights and it was fine. I believe that the reed came to the seller in this condition so I never blamed them. Maybe the etsy seller got some stinky leather.
